DIY Easy Entryway Makeover (with Paint!)
If you’ve been following along on my Instagram, you probably know that this weekend we had a lot of fun with our most recent project. Seriously, I don’t think I could have put this blog post together any faster! I am beyond excited to share with y’all the details and final look of our latest DIY that we did this weekend. (Praise Jesus for a husband that goes along with all my crazy ideas!)
I’m absolutely obsessed with this super easy DIY entryway makeover that we did with paint, a board, and some hooks. It really just goes to show that something as simple as paint can really transform spaces in your home on a budget. The best part? This project was so easy, and I think anyone could do it! There’s really no excuse to not pick up a paint brush and put your mark on your home.
Easy Entryway Makeover
As simple as this DIY project was, I really can’t get enough with how it all came out (especially the paint color!) I love how complete and cozy this project makes our entryway feel now. Who would’ve thought this neutral lover would find so much joy and inspiration in colors lately?! Here’s a look at the before, my inspiration behind the design, as well as all the details of making it happen —
Before:
Here is a look at our entryway before the makeover. It wasn’t bad. However, I didn’t love the space. I have been trying to come up with a plan on how I wanted to transform it since we moved in. I thought about doing some sort of built-ins or a hall tree of some sort, but I didn’t want something that looked bulky right in the entryway when you walked in. I just wanted something that was cute and cozy yet functional – a place we could store shoes and things by the front door without things piling up.
Design Inspiration:
This super easy DIY project was actually inspired by a picture I came across on Pinterest of an entryway makeover done by Mindfully Gray. I loved the idea of such a statement wall in the entryway right when you come in the house. (After all, your entryway is your home’s first impression!) However, I knew I wanted a slightly different color (with a more blue-green jewel undertone.) Meanwhile, I also knew I wanted to add in a bench in to make the space both cozy and functional. Take a look at the design board I created for this project below!
DIY Entryway Makeover Details:
- Accent Paint Color: Cascades by Sherwin Williams (1-quart using Behr Marquee Paint in Eggshell finish)
- Wall Paint Color: Reflection by Sherwin Williams
- Board Stain Color: Early American by Varathane (from Home Depot)
- Hooks: 4.5 inch Matte Black Wire Hooks (from Home Depot)
- Bench: Ivory Pew Bench (from Kirklands)
- Throw Pillows: from HomeGoods
- Shiplap Squares: a friend of my parents made them for me for Christmas!
- Embroidery Hoop Wreaths: DIY (coming soon to the blog!)
The Process:
First things first, I taped off the space and laid down plastic trash bags on the floor to avoid any mess. After taping off the space with Frogtape, I got to painting with a shed-resistant paint roller. I ended up doing two light coats on Friday evening while watching TV, letting it dry in between coats. Between coats, I stained a 1×4 board with a rag. After the second coat of paint, I removed the tape to make sure I had clean lines. The next morning I did a light third coat with a paint roller with long strokes to make sure everything looked smooth when the natural light hit the wall. After that final coat, I sealed my stained board with a thick coat of Polyurethane.
From there, we secured the board to the wall through the studs so that it would be able to support weight. I then hung the black hooks over the spots where I secured the board in order to hide the holes. Meanwhile, we also hung the shiplap squares and put the bench and pillows in place. To complete the look, I made these darling embroidery hoop wreaths from these embroidery hoops and a couple floral bunches from Walmart. That’s it! All in all — talk about an easy DIY to completely transform a space!
Well there you have it, friends! I hope you enjoyed this super easy DIY as much as I did. This neutral lover had so much fun getting inspired with color and creating a cute and functional space to act as my home’s first impression when you walk in. Would you ever experiment with a colored accent wall in your home?
