How-To Transition Your Christmas Decor into the Rest of Winter

How To Transition Your Christmas Decor Into The Rest of Winter / A Hosting Home Blog

Transitioning into Winter Home Decor

On Instagram in the past I’ve asked y’all about how you transition your home into the rest of winter after putting away your Christmas decor. To my big surprise, so many of you said that you skip straight to a spring state of mind! One thing that caught my eye was that I received messages saying that you feel like this is an awkward time of year between Christmas and Spring that you don’t know what to do with your home’s decor while you wait on spring to make its grand arrival. In hopes to help you savor another month or so of coziness, today on the blog is all about how-to transition your Christmas decor into the rest of winter!

How-To Transition Your Christmas Decor into the Rest of Winter

If you’re someone like me who wants to shed a tear this time of year when it’s time to put away your Christmas decor, transitioning your Christmas decor into the rest of winter is a lot easier than you may think it is.

Put Away Ornaments

The first step for transitioning your Christmas decor into the rest of winter is to start by taking down all the ornaments from your 500 Christmas trees all around the house. You don’t even have to take down your Christmas trees, wreaths, or garlands!

In fact, (especially if you have flocked trees) a bare tree with fuzzy or large knit blankets at the base can really give off a winter wonderland vibe to keep your home cozy through the rest of winter. If your tree isn’t flocked, you can still give your tree a winter wonder look so it doesn’t look too bare by adding snow fluff or pillow stuffing that you can buy at Hobby Lobby. I do this on my living room tree (that is not flocked) to add texture after I put on our Christmas ornaments.

Meanwhile, one of my favorite looks is when smaller trees (say about  6 ft or smaller) are placed into large baskets or crocks that are overflowing with blankets. Two of my favorite bloggers that do this with their Christmas trees is Natalie from My Vintage Porch and Liz from Liz Marie Blog.

Accent with Textures and Winter Foliage

Whether it’s through fuzzy or knit throw blankets, a rug, or even something as simple as a table runner or placemat, the easiest way to cozy up your home in the fall and winter is by adding the right textures into your home’s decor. With that being said, a super easy way to transition your Christmas decor into the rest of winter is to accent with the textures that you already have up!

Keeping your Christmas trees up as well as your other winter foliage (such as garlands and wreaths) is one of the easiest ways to add in texture to keep with the season and channel a winter wonderland vibe. Especially if you want your home to feel refreshed with the new year, channeling the color green (and greenery!) is the best way to do that because it’s associated with freshness in design. So don’t be afraid to keep up your Christmas trees a little bit longer this year. Grab a cozy blanket and some hot cocoa, and soak up the rest of winter. What’s the rush?

Keep it Cozy with Candles and Twinkle Lights

Another sure-fire way to keep your home cozy as you transition into the rest of winter is to keep out the candles and twinkle lights. There’s nothing like soft candlelight that makes those early evenings cozy as you bundle up on the sofa with your hubs and the pups. So take a few strands of those Christmas lights as you take them off your roof and turn your living room into a intimate and cozy winter wonderland against all your flocked greenery and snowy-inspired decor.

Not to mention, I believe I read that Joanna Gaines mentioned that one way to make your home feel fresh for the New Year was to burn a new winter-esque candle in your home. As a candle lover, she didn’t have to tell me twice!

Put Away Other Christmas-Specific Decor

Like the ornaments from your Christmas tree, another way to transition your home’s decor into the rest of winter is to put away all of the other Christmas-specific decor. By this I mean your Santas, the elves, the Christmas signs, and all of colorful red and green Christmas-specific decor that may have filled our home. The easiest way to transition into winter is by going back to the basics and channeling winter-esque elements that can be brought out with neutrals. However, you shouldn’t be afraid to accent some with those reds or greens!

The point is to take your time to enjoy the season of life that you’re in and to just make your space feel fresh and renewed with the New Year.

If you’re anything like me, I can’t help but shed a tear this time of year when it’s time to put away our Christmas decor. But! Transitioning your Christmas decor into the rest of winter is a lot easier than you may think it is. Between you and me, it may also be a little less overwhelming not having to take down everything at once. Why not savor the cozy for another month or so?

Tell me, do you skip straight to a spring state of mind after Christmas is over? Or do you like to transition your Christmas decor to soak up the cozy for the rest of winter? No judgement here, sister! Leave a comment with your vote below!

Back at the beginning of March, we got a jumpstart Back at the beginning of March, we got a jumpstart on prepping our Spring and Summer garden with @Walmart Lawn and Garden. #AD Along with top dressing the yard with sand, we’ve been hard at work getting our garden ready for the season. Here’s a look at our garden 8 weeks later after we’ve successfully transplanted those @FerryMorseSeed seeds we started in our @JiffyGroup seed starting greenhouse kit with the seed starting heat mat!

We used the @pennington Rejuvenate Potting Mix and Garden Soil to refresh our raised beds and give our seedlings the nutrients they needed once transplanted into our garden as well as the Pennington Rejuvenate Vegetable and Tomato Plant Food to give them the boost they need to thrive.

Finally, the @scottslawn Landscaping Fabric was essential in cleaning up our garden and front flower beds to keep our garden free of pesky weeds. And the @flexonhose Flextreme Advanced 100ft Hose has been a game changer in keeping it all watered without fighting kinks so we can move easily around our raised garden beds.

SWIPE to see what our garden looked like before! 👉🏼

Spring gardening is right around the corner, and I Spring gardening is right around the corner, and I’m already starting to get ours prepped thanks to @walmart Lawn and Garden! #AD With a newborn and a toddler, running errands can be quite the task. But thanks to #WalmartLawnandGarden, I’ve been able to get everything I need to kickstart our garden this year in one place — from the convenience of snuggling my babies on my couch with Walmart.com and the app! The time it saved me from running all over town, I got to spend making core memories with John as we taught him how to start his very first set of seeds in the @jiffygroup seed starting tray.

Here’s a look at what we got to kickstart our garden this year:
- The @jiffygroup Seed Starting Greenhouse Kit: to grow our own seedlings and get a head start on the season by starting them indoors!
- The @ferrymorseseed Seed Starting Heat Mat: to give our seeds the best chance possible to promote germination and improve transplant results
- Ferry Morse Seeds (flowers, tomatoes, and peppers!)

January 20th, 2023 💛

James was born last Friday morning, and spent the first 5 days in the NICU for some breathing issues and fluid in his lungs. While those days were extremely rough, trying, and brought back a lot of emotions from Layne’s birth — God is so good, and my heart is just overwhelmed by His faithfulness. My favorite moment in life thus far was surprising John before bedtime the night we were finally discharged to come home. I’ll never forget the look on his face when I walked through that door. Thank you, Jesus, for my babies. 🦋💛 #ahostinghome

Rob has always wanted a study, so my goal with this space when it’s finished is to have almost like a moody, swanky cigar lounge feel. When we moved into this house this spring, I told Rob I was done playing it “safe for resale” with designing projects. Here’s to more of doing whatever the heck I want design wise in 2023! 👏🏼✨ Next up: let’s get this space styled and furnished! #ahostinghome
