Christmas Chalkboard in the Breakfast Nook
Christmas Chalkboard
Do y’all remember when I had the crazy idea of turning my wall in our breakfast nook into a massive chalkboard wall? I remember it like yesterday – mainly because I was having a heart attack at the thought of what Rob would say when I asked him. Little did I know that he’d say yes right away, and I’d drag him immediately to Home Depot to get the supplies before he changed his mind. (If you want our chalkboard wall tutorial, you can read it HERE.)
Looking back, it is seriously one of my favorite projects that we’ve done. I feel like it fits seamlessly into the kitchen now, and I can’t imagine what else I would even put there. (Not that there is really enough primer in Georgia to cover up that black paint anyways!) I really look forward to changing up the lettering with the months and the seasons.

I realize that not everyone may see all the ways I decorate our chalkboard for the seasons if they’re not following us on Instagram. (Which if you aren’t following us @ahostinghome, you need to!) So today on the blog, I want to share with you how I used our chalkboard in our breakfast nook to accompany our Christmas decor this year.
Christmas Chalkboard Inspiration
I really love how simple yet beautiful our chalkboard looks this year for Christmas. To be honest, I was really stuck on what I wanted to do with it for a while. It was the last thing in my home I needed to do to be 100% done decorating for Christmas this year. I thought of all these witty quotes and illustrations, but nothing seemed fitting for how we felt this holiday season. As I started at a box with two extra wreaths, it hit me. I decided that I wanted to get back to the root of what Christmas was all about: Jesus coming into this world.
Joy to the world, the Lord has come. Let earth receive her King…
I think my favorite part of this Christmas chalkboard is how simple it really was. I simply draped this 9′ flocked garland along the top. Then, I hung it with command hooks attached to the wood frame of the chalkboard. After that, I placed these 12″ wreaths where I thought they should be for the phrase with mini command hooks. (If you don’t know by now, I totally eyeball things!) Lastly, I filled in the lettering with chalk. Super simple – yet beautiful!
I hope you enjoyed this little peek at our Christmas chalkboard this year in the breakfast nook – and I hope it inspires you to get back to the meaning of the season when it comes to decorating your home for Christmas.
