Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens
Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens
Brown paper packages tied up with strings
These are a few of my favorite things.
Here’s to the happiest of Fridays, friends! Today on the blog, I can’t wait to share with you some of my favorite things for Spring 2018. From a new diet I’m currently loving, denim that will make you reminisce back to Justin and Britney in 2001, and home decor, this post has a little something for everyone. Here’s a little bit of what I’m loving lately!
My Spring 2018 Favorites
Everything Magnolia at Target
With how much I love everything Magnolia and Target, they really are the perfect match made in heaven. Ever since their Hearth & Hand line came out in November, I’ve been religiously following along like so many others to see what they’re going to do next. Every time they add pieces to their line, I feel like a kid on Christmas morning. Needless to say, this time was no different. When I got word of the new Magnolia line at Target that just launched, it was one that I don’t think any of us knew we were missing. But, now that it’s here, I don’t think I could encourage you to run to your closest Target fast enough.
While the new items added to Magnolia’s Hearth & Hand line also included more spring decor, stoneware, and other spring hosting goodness, my favorite additions to the line were definitely the paint, wallpaper, and hardware. With a ton of styles and colors to choose from, there really is a little bit of everything to meet any farmhouse lover’s taste. My love for the new Universal Thread line at Target brings me back to Justin and Britney’s iconic denim outfits from 2001. Just wait, I’ll show you plenty of that on Instagram stories this weekend as I rock denim on denim in Boston.
But in all seriousness, it takes a lot for me to love a pair of jeans. I loathe jean shopping with a capital L, and I have always had the hardest time finding a pair that fits me correctly. But, I fell in love with Universal Thread denim from the moment I tried them on. My first pair of jeans from the brand was the photo below, and I actually got them on accident. I ordered a pair of basic non-distressed High-Waisted Skinny Jeans online, and I received these Mid-Rise Skinny Jeans by mistake. However, I wasn’t complaining because it was like hearing angels sing when I tried them on. I legit walked around my house like a straight-up super model while my husband awkwardly laughed at me.
Since then I have gone back to Target and tried on all of their different cuts and fits, but I have always gone back to the Mid-Rise Skinny. They are extremely comfortable and soft, fit amazing, and have a good amount of stretch that doesn’t make me feel like I’m suffocating and wearing skinny jeans. Now that they’re even 2 sizes too big, I wear them with a belt and still love them! I went back and got another pair of non-distressed skinny jeans to wear on our trip, and I’ve been low-key excited waiting to wear them all week. The best part is that they’re only $25! Meanwhile, I also snagged this darling denim jacket, and I’m pretty much planning to wear it with everything.
Floral Farmhouse Curtains
Since we moved at the end of November until just a couple weeks ago, I’ve been going through the internal struggle of finding the perfect curtains for the dining, kitchen, and living rooms. With these rooms being the heart of our home, I really wanted the curtains to be cozy and inviting while making a statement. On top of that, they couldn’t block out the natural light that I love so much. It seemed like an impossible task. As a designer I really love bringing the unexpected into a space and making it a statement piece. It really doesn’t matter whether that be for styling homes or weddings. I knew that I wanted these curtains to be patterned yet the perfect balance that didn’t completely overwhelm the space. After all, I had 12 panels to shop for!
I always kept coming back to the idea of floral patterns. Needless to say, my husband was a bit hesitant. And when I started telling people I’ve been on the hunt forever for the perfect floral curtains for my dining and living room, I got a lot of weird looks. After all, the 80s and 90s were coming back. But, floral curtains? I’m pretty sure most people wanted that trend to burn in the 80s with their grandma’s floral couch. However, I’m beyond excited to say that the hunt is over, and I’ve found the perfect floral curtains for our modern farmhouse. I found these when I least expected it and immediately fell in love. (That’s how love stories always happen, right?) Get all the details in my recent blog post linked below!
This is almost weird for me, y’all! I have never been much of a green lover. But there is something about bringing greenery indoors and all of the green inspiration I’ve been loving on Pinterest lately that has me loving everything sage. It’s not a super bright green that’s in your face. But with a more gray undertone, it almost works as a neutral blending into your existing farmhouse color palette. I am so excited to be embracing sage this spring with some of the projects that we have going on at A Hosting Home. First up, sliding barn door style night stands. I can’t wait to show you how they turn out – stay tuned! I’ve been collecting Sherwin Williams paint swatches to find the perfect shade for our home. (How could you not love that sage in the photo of Angela’s Cozy Home below!)
Sherwin Williams Sage Swatches I’m Currently Loving:

Keto (Not Exactly a Favorite – But It’s Happening!)
Well, Keto is not exactly one of my favorite things, but it’s a huge lifestyle change that is 7 weeks in the making at the point of publishing this blog post. I must say that, while it sucks at times, I do love the way it is making me feel. After my husband’s health scare in December, I made a vow that in 2018 I was going to take our health seriously. I wanted to start treating my body like the temple that it was, and I wanted to live as the healthiest and strongest version of myself – mind, body, and soul. I had been having lackluster results on Weight Watchers before then, and Keto was actually my husband’s idea. Little did I know, there was a whole Keto movement going on right now!
For those of you who may know me and my story, I actually have done something like Keto before when I was in college. Actually, it was a lot more restrictive than Keto was. Long story short, I had a lot of stomach issues that left me with an extremely strict diet that naturally resulted in melting the weight off, but I still struggled severely with my body image – often alone and in my head. It wasn’t until about a year ago that I worked to resolve that part of me. It took a lot of prayer, sticky notes on mirrors, and a huge change in the way I talked to myself – and while I’m significantly heavier than I was 4 years ago, I can honestly say that I’m in a healthier mental state when it comes to my body.
Healthier Mind, Body, Soul
So, that brings me to where I am right now. I’ve embraced Keto in a much healthier mindset now with not just the goal focused on the number on the scale. But rather, I’m focused on being the healthiest and strongest version of myself – for myself. And it’s going well! As hard as it was to get started (and as hard as the cravings can get sometimes!), I must say that I feel amazing and it has been worth it. I am 6 weeks into this new lifestyle, down 16 pounds, and down two pant sizes already. While I’m not down as many pounds as I’ve seen with a lot of others by now, I’m still doing a victory dance every time I see the scale go down. As my husband likes to say, it’s all in the journey.
I get a lot of questions about how I ‘do’ Keto, and I plan on doing a blog post all about it eventually. (It’s really hard for me to talk about my weight journey – I hope you understand that!) But, after 6 weeks of letting my body adjust to the new diet, I’ve officially started training for my next half marathon this week. I also stuck to the basics for the first 3 weeks before diving into Keto recipes and #allthethings Keto hacks. Simply Keto by Suzanne at Keto Karma has been an amazing resource for kicking off this new lifestyle. If you’re curious about Keto or thinking of adopting the lifestyle yourself, I highly recommend this book! Not only does it teach you everything you need to know about how Keto works. But it also has shopping lists, meal plans, and over 100 recipes!
