Our Big Announcement! // Introducing A Hosting Home
Today is an exciting day!
Today is an exciting day for a couple different reasons, but the first one I want to talk about is that Rob and I filmed our first ever Youtube video! We really wanted to make our first Youtube video (not to mention, our first video together!) special by sharing some exciting news with all of you.
A Hosting Heart
If you’ve been here for a while and have had the chance to get to know my story, you’d know that I have a huge heart for hosting that has been beating since I was a little girl. I still remember to this day playing waitress to my parent’s friends that would come over for dinner and drinks as well as taking drink orders with a little waitress notepad on family holidays when my grandma’s house was full. I even had a little toy cash register, a cute pen, and a mini apron with dreams that I’d be a waitress one day. If we’re being honest, I’ve yet to work an actual waitressing job. But, that heart for hosting is where it all began.
While my resume says I’m an award winning published certified wedding planner, I guess you could say most people know me as the Monica Geller of my friend group – coffee obsessed with a love for the idea of inviting people in, meeting people where they were at and serving and loving them well. Years after retiring that little black play apron, my journey towards where we are today started way back when we were dreaming of our own wedding. I was a teaching assistant in the marketing department with a sass-infused wedding blog. It made way too many Beyonce references, and I was a mission to bring ease and authenticity to the wedding planning process.
Passion for Planning
Through planning our wedding I really feel like I found my passion for creating spaces for loved ones to gather together to celebrate life’s precious moments. Weddings are often the first time that the families of the couples on either side all get together in the same room at the same time. Meanwhile, the same heart for hosting that I’ve had since a young age was the same heart that I built my business on. I wanted to bring the joy back to wedding planning. I wanted to give couples the opportunity to focus on actually celebrating with their loved ones on their wedding day instead of all the logistics and plans.
My Heart Beyond the Wedding
However, like I mentioned before, my heart for hosting went way beyond the wedding day. I really felt God pulling at my heart to make this heart he gave me for hosting a bigger part of my business. Because of that pull, I launched my new brand this Fall focusing on weddings and hosting with heart.
But, y’all, ever since it’s launch, I wasn’t 100% happy. I found myself really struggling with the idea that something was missing. My new brand was received really well. People seemed to love it. My website and blog traffic was higher than it had ever been. But, something wasn’t right, and I couldn’t figure it out.
I continued to pray to God for some direction in attempt to find what was missing. And that’s when He told me:
“Cathy, I didn’t want your heart for hosting to be a part of your brand, I want it to BE your brand.”
At the same time, Rob felt like God had really been tugging at his heart to embrace the passion that we both shared for creating things and my woodworking to be something more. One Saturday night while we were watching Ghost Adventures on the Travel Channel (totally our guilty pleasure!), we spilled our hearts to find that God had been pulling us both in the same direction. So, after a lot of time in prayer together after that night, we are officially ready to share some big news with all of you…
We’re officially business partners!
Introducing, A Hosting Home
Today, we’re launching our new business and brand, A Hosting Home, together combining my love for styling spaces and hosting with heart with Rob’s passion for creating and wood working to help others design their spaces with intention. Our heart for A Hosting Home is for creating and really helping others be intentional on creating their own spaces to gather and celebrate life’s precious moments – whether that be your wedding, a party, or even something as simple as hosting friends and loved ones in your homes. Not to mention, we are aiming to be your ultimate source for styling and inspiration with our specialization in handcrafted décor, furniture, and wedding ceremony backdrops.
What will happen to Cathy Nugent Weddings?
You may be reading this and wondering what all of this means for the Cathy Nugent Weddings business and brand. I hope all of you know that my heart for hosting and my heart for what the wedding day represents will always be the same. I will continue to offer wedding design and coordination under our new business and brand. However, it will just be on a more limited scale for right now as we follow in faith this new path that God is paving for us. We have big hopes to stay super involved in the wedding industry with some of our new offerings within A Hosting Home such as our handcrafted ceremony backdrops and other decor.
“Each of you should use whatever gifts you have received to serve others as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.” – 1 Peter 4:10
Rob and I have always unapologetically chased in faith after what we feel like God has called us to, and we hope that you all are as excited as we are for this new chapter in our lives and our business.
